Our Review of the Dexton Great Plains 6′ Teepee
Remember when you were young and you’d play cowboys and Indian with your siblings? Well, that play is still a favorite among kids today. The cowboys/ Indians haven’t lost its magic, and it’s a game still widely played.
Years ago, we’d place a big blanket over some chairs and pretend that it’s a teepee. Times have changed and your kids now have the option to make playing a little more real-like.
The Dexton Great Plains 6′ Teepee is a very wonderful toy. Although primarily made for playing, it’s actually a great way for your child to sharpen his imagination. The space is comfortable enough for a child to play, read and even sleep.
Setting up the Dexton Teepee is not a problem at all. Some of the reviews I read suggest securing the joints in the poles with tapes, but this is actually unnecessary if you properly align the slots and pegs inside the connection joint. The slots and pegs are not very obvious, so you’d have to watch out for them. I was able to set up the teepee in about five minutes, and can disassemble it within two minutes. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can store the teepee when not in use and just set it up when your child wants to play with it.
Another thing that I love about this teepee is that it comes in a neutral color and can easily be painted with water or oil-based paint. It’s a great way to teach your child about art and let their imagination fly. Kids would also love the customized feel of their teepee.
While there is no doubt that the Dexton Great Plains 6′ Teepee is a great product, I have a bit of problem with the smell when I first got it out of the packaging. The smell was so bad that you can smell it from outside the room. What I did was that I washed it in hot water with laundry detergent and then dried it with fabric softener. The washing didn’t affect the teepee’s quality at all, and it took care of the odor once and for all.
Also, it seems like the measurement given by the company is off. Although it says 6’, it’s actually more on the 5’ range. It’s also more like 4 feet inside rather than the 5feet promised on the online store where I bought it from. If you have two or more kids at home, you might want to get a bigger teepee.
Overall, this is a great product and highly recommended.

My kids LOVE this teepee. I ordered it for my son’s birthday and both him and his older brother love it (3 and 7 years old). They read, play and sleep in it. It’s easy to move around, and it looks great(very neutral blends with any room’s decor very well). We have had it for just about 3 weeks and we have been using it inside, so far so good. This toy sparks my kid’s imagination, it’s very sturdy and I highly recommend it.

This was purchased for a pre school project. The kids love to decorate it with Native American symbols. It is easy to assemble and stays together well (as opposed to tee pees purchased from Oriental Trading in the past). I would recommend this item and we will purchase the same (if available, hopefully) regularly for our annual school project.

This is a truly awesome tee pee. It doesn’t have any ugly patterns on it and is actually very modern looking. My daughter loves this new play spot more than any toy we have gotten for her. After I assembled the tee pee (in about 5 minutes I might add) I noticed a kind of ‘new carpet smell,’ after airing it out for a day it went away. In general if you are looking for a tee pee at a great price I highly recommend this one.
